Caught up in sizzling temperatures, I make the most out of my time left in the Texas Hill Country by chasing my favorite species – golden bones; ghetto trout; mudsuckers– carp. Despite the sun's sear, I find my way wading into mudflats and immersing myself into thick brush to target these fish. Even on an eight-weight rod, I'm just along for the ride when a ten-pound carp decides to grace me with the opening of its barbel-lined lips. I unwillingly greet wild pigs, watersnakes, and creatures of the shore to trek in search of one more scarlet tail.
