A season defined by iced-over rivers and slippery parking lots, winter initially brought me dread. In the Gunnison Valley, those who enjoy winter are either proud owners of a snowboard or a pair of skis. Those who own neither don’t enjoy winter. As someone who fell into the latter category, I took a different approach to beating boredom in the frosty season.

While most rivers were iced over, I refined my photography skills, donned my snow pants, and took to the mountains. Here is a collection of winter's most bountiful views, through a grayscale lens.

That's Wild.

That's what we said too. That's Wild Outdoors is founded on the experiences of two enthusiasts who simply cannot get enough; of dreamers, who share a bond through nature and expression; and of storytellers, who can't let go of a creative obsession. Whether separated by a rod's length of chalky water, or by a mountain range that spans across state borders; together, we share a commitment to the stories that just need to be told.
